A Very Good Place to Start

I am in a carb-infected rut. Or, I should say, my family is. I discovered the awesome benefits of the Low Carb Lifestyle last summer. Yes, it involved Kimkins, and no I am not going to discuss that here, EVER, but suffice it to say, I had a more positive experience and have lost 63 lbs (first 18 was on my own version of what I assumed Atkins is). I intend to lose a little more, perhaps, and firm up, etc., blah, blah, blah. I am faced, though, at this juncture, the prospect of keeping that weight off. Maintaining my losses. Forever. For life. At the same time, I have a family that was not on my "diet" with me and continued eating the same high carb meals I once ate. A huge bulb flashed in my brain--why not convert the entire family over to lower carb??? Why should I insist they eat "normally"--setting them up for the same carb addict issues down the road? Why not teach them this WOE, the WOE I believe is the way to fight obesity? And why not blog about it? There might be many out there facing this dilemma and just don't know where to start. Well, I don't either! But hopefully I can figure it out, through trial and error, over the course of ???? who knows how long and eventually there will be a road map from which others will benefit.

A little family info/bio: I am married, 11 years, with four children ages 2 (b), 4 (g), 6 (g), and 8 (b). My kids are pretty picky at this point, so this endeavor will prove to be a challenge, I am sure, but I feel I am up for the task! One of our major issues in groceries is keeping spending low. It can get expensive to feed 6 of us, and all too often it is easier and cheaper to buy "crap" food than to make it myself. I vow to learn a way to have it both ways. How will I do this? I have no idea!

I have listed at the right some great established Low Carb blogs from which I hope to glean information to prepare me to do this. I have been putting off posting because it is a very overwhelming idea to me: overhauling my family's eating habits WITHOUT them noticing. I want to share the inspiration to finally get my feet wet: Cleochatra's blog post. Her list makes me want to throw out all the white stuff and get to it! Thank you for the post! Here I gooooooooooo.......

Hello! I've added you to my blog list, on account of you're just adorable!

I think you've started at a great place! Congratulations on your success so far with weight loss.

It's an exciting prospect bringing in the family, and, at the same time, a seemingly harrowing one.

You're a great mom for making sure your kids eat tremendously and for instilling in them lifelong values of health and happiness.

Thank you so much for adding me and for your kind words! GULP. No pressure! :-) I want to save my kids from the need to seek out detrimental diets in the first place...but harrowing is a great word!

Kim, i am unable to post correctly on LCF as i am being censored, all posts approved before posting and posts being edited to fit their cause.

what does that say to you?

i have a blog to.

Oh, I agree, Paula. Censorship on both sides ABOUNDS...LCF is no better. But I at least appreciate the opportunity for a debate without the entire thread being deleted...

(((HUGS))) to you Paula. I am sorry we are on two opposite sides of the fence..
